police are on the scene of a homicide. it was reported at 1:45 this morning. police found a man with at least one gunshot wound. matt keller is on the scene and has learned two people have been detained. he will have a live report coming up. we're also following develops news out of san jose where two people have been hurt in massive fire. not there. crews have the fire surrounded but it's still not under control. it broke out just before 4:00 this morning. there is the map. fire crews say when they arrived at the home, it was fully engulfed in flames. two people were hurt. but the extent of their injuries and how they were hurt is unknown at this time. we'll continue to follow this story and bring you the latest developments. overnight news an investigation is under way into an apartment fire in san francisco's mission district. tara moriarty joins us now from the scene with a look at the damage and what firefighters are saying. >> reporter: fire investigators have not told us if this fire

is suspicious. what strikes you as odd it started on the first nor then we skip a floor and then a fire broke out on the top floor. they received a report of a fire around 2:00 this morning. it started on the rear deck of the bottom floor unit and spread to the inside. so did flames jump to the top unit or was that a separate fire? we just don't know. >> the one unit was empty and the other unit the top unit the civilian came out on his own. we did conduct a search of the building and nobody else was in the building. >> reporter: luckily no injuries here and this was a one alarm. back here live you can see the charred wood here out on the street. no word on how much the damage will cost. the cause of this fire is still under investigation. live in san francisco i'm tara

moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. solano county law enforcement worked through the night to dispose of home made explosives found in a vallejo home. the bomb squad detonated the explosives that were recovered at a house on georgia street. the blast rattled windows and set off car alarms. the incident began while acting on a tip 37 they first knocked on the doors of neighbors to evacuate them. then police arrested the suspect after he came out of his house to check in on the commotion. >> they are dangerous enough that we're taking the precautions that we're taking. we feel like at the very least he was a danger to himself and the people that live around him as well. >> police arrested the suspect who was identified as a man in his 50s. investigators are still trying to determine the reason behind the explosives. joe biden and paul ryan went face to face in a feisty

debate. >> this is what politicians do when they don't have a record to run on. try to scare people from voting for you. >> coming up at 5:15 why some republicans are calling joe biden's debate performance disrespectful. two judges have temporarily suspended hearings on the san bruno pipeline explosion. instead of public hearing, closed door negotiations will be held to determine how much pg&e should be fined. private negotiations could help expedite a settlement. the hearings will be on hold until november 1st. hercules police are in washington state to interview two persons of interest in the killing of retired schoolteacher suzie ko. investigators say they were in the subaru that was stolen from

the hercules home of susie ko. she was found fatally stabbed inside her home on friday. the couple is suspected on a month long crime spree. new discoveries in that serial killer case could lead to unanswered questions in the disappearance of a little girl. they found bone fragments inside a well. police say the bones were found with the remains of joe an hobbson who disappeared in 1985. if you plan to travel on the pittsburgh bay point line of bart, expect delays starting tonight. bart will be performing train controlled testing between lafayette and pleasant hill at 9:00 this evening. then tomorrow trains will be running in manual mode between walnut creek and pleasant hill.

bart says passengers should expect close to ten minute delays. testing is expected to be completed tomorrow night with service back to normal by sunday. 5:05 is the time. let's check in with sal for an early look at the commute. i know there was construction. a lot of construction in marin county. hopefully that is picked up. >> yeah they are picking it up. right now across the richmond bridge it also looks good over to the east bay. this is a look at the east shore freeway coming down to the mccarthur maze. a lot of people join from 580 there. it looks pretty good heading out to the toll plaza. it's a little wet though. you should leave the house a little early if you can. westbound 80 that looks pretty good getting into san francisco. also the morning commute is looking good on northbound 280 in san jose. getting up to highway 17. let's go to steve. sal, thank you. our pesky little stubborn low continues to rotate in. clouds coming out from the

sierra nevada are almost done. we have the combination of the two giving us a cloudy day. this low has been out there for three weeks. it's finally moving. it moved east yesterday. continuing to move east. still sending back in clouds. mostly cloudy. cool. and underneath that you get the westerly breeze. light rain, drizzle, coast bay. some big low considering it wasn't that strong for about a couple weeks ago. it picked up moisture. it's moving but still giving us a cloudy pattern. there is a westerly component. once that low goes through, i would expect it to turn more north westerly. we are seeing signs of that. it will still be a cool day. 50s on the temps. they seem to be stuck due to the low clouds and combination of the high clouds. one low moves out. another system coming in right here. we will still keep low clouds and drizzle on the coast. could be a few isolated showers and this evening this weak system comes in keeping the

flight risk and should return to custody. oracle owner is interested in buying aeg. ellison has previously bid for sports teams including the warriors but failed to seal the deal. sources close to him say one of the attractions of buying aeg it would allow him to relocate an nfl team to the city of los angeles. the auction for aeg which owns the los angeles kings and the staple center is only in the preliminary stages right now. defense secretary leon panetta says the u.s. is facing a possibility of a cyber pearl harbor attack. panetta says increasingly sophisticated computer hackers could dismantle the u.s. power grid, transportation system, financial networks, and the government. recent cyber attacks against oil and gas companies were the most destructive the private sector has ever seen. the attacks on a saudi oil company effected more than

losses. hong kong finished up slightly. checking in on our numbers. futures indicate a higher opening across the board for the dow, nasdaq, and s & p. pretty small moves. but one company jp morgan reporting a good fourth quarter. police are investigating a homicide. matt keller is live on the scene at rogers and junction avenues with new developments in the case. >> porter: you can see that officers are still here at the scene of the city's 37th homicide of the year. you can even see the mobile command unit here as well. the shooting happened here on rogers avenue just before 2:00 this morning. when officers arrived they saw a man suffering from one gunshot wound. he died at the scene. we just came from a second scene on southbound 101. they detained a toyota sedan and we watched as they took photos of the vehicle. we saw three people detained in the become of police cars. one was a witness and one was

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. time now 5:21. we have new information about a bomb scare aboard a south bay bus. a 15-year-old morgan hill boy admitted to planting the suspicious package with the word bomb on it. the scare forced evacuations and shut down monterey highway for a couple hours. the boy was released after being cited for reporting a false bomb. the company that owns telly's coffee -- tullys coffee

has filed for bankruptcy. it owes more than $3.7 million. it hopes to emerge from chapter 11 sometime next year. organizers of the burning manifest value say they may have to move the event from the nevada desert. they are in a legal battle with perishing county which would increase security costs by hundreds of thousands of dollars. but burning man organizers argue the county can't impose higher fees because it's held on federal land. last year costs were $170,000. it could go up to $600,000. in a story you will see only on 2. a moraga boy scout who was denied eagle scout is making his way around talk shows this week. yesterday he was on the ellen degeneres show. >> i'm proud of you. i think you're an amazing young man. >> he started getting national attention after his mother

welcome back to ktvu channel 2 morning news. i'm mike mibach. dave clark has the morning off. >> i'm pam cook. time is just about 5:30. wet roads overnight steve. how about now? >> still going on. there is still areas of drizzle, light rain, and cloudy sky. low clouds and higher clouds still streaming off the sierra nevada if you enjoyed yesterday, you will like today as well. all right right now we have a big problem on 880 southbound at 23rd an accident blocking several lanes. just issued a cig alert for that. also this morning we are looking at the traffic on 880 here north and it looks all right. 5:30 here's a look at southbound 101. let's go back to the desk. we are following breaking news out of san francisco. firefighters on the scene of a restaurant fire. tara moriarty is just getting there at the scene with a look at what is happening. tara. >> reporter: yeah we are here

in west portal at a restaurant called the squat and gobble. we just arrived on scene. this just went to a three alarm fire. this is on the main drag here of west portal. it is right across the street from the west portal muni station. so the service we're not sure exactly if it's going to be cut off. we have noticed a couple of the lines going through. but we understand that traffic could definitely be impacted at least for the next 30 minutes or so. now when we first arrived there was a heavy amount of smoke coming from that awning right above the squat and gobble. you can still see they have their hoses and water being sprayed on it. it looks like they have the situation under control now. they are actually going in next door. there is a business located next door where the fire crews are gaining access. they are probably going to be

breaking down some wall there is to let the fire breathe. you can see there is smoke coming from the windows of that building that is located next door to the squat and gobble. this is a very popular restaurant here in west portal. and we do not know exactly what caused the fire. we understand it could be due to a flue fire. that started in the chimney there. some of the grease left over from the night before when they were cooking. we are waiting to confirm everything with the fire chief here. the assistant fire chief is out on scene. we will hopefully get an interview with him and find out more information. if you need to get through the west portal area you might want to hold tight. we may not see any trains coming through this area. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news. overnight news concern is growing about a serial arsonist after another dumpster was set on fire. that fire was reported just after 7:30 last night.

this was the tenth fire in the area in the past two weeks and the second in just 24 hours. now no structures have been damaged but fire investigators are worried that one of the fires could get out of control. anyone with information about the fires is asked to call the fire department. also in overnight news an investigation is under way into a suspected home invasion late last night in vallejo. alex savidge is there in vallejo this morning as police try to determine exactly what happened. alex. >> reporter: i just talked with a sergeant from vallejo police he confirmed to me that three people have been arrested following this home invasion robbery that happened late last night inside this house up the street from where we are. police got a 911 call. six people inside were being held up from armed men that broke into the house. police say the robbers here demanded jewelry and valuables. this happened add 10:40 --

the 12-mile trip will take two days. this is a live picture from los angeles. that shuttle is moving but at a very slow space. endeavour will be stopping at a parking lot and will have a nine hour lay over as crews deal with power lines a little bit farther ahead of the route. now while many the move will draw curious onlookers. some have complained about the extra traffic congestion as the shuttle makes this journey. some 400 trees were also cut to make room for the shuttle to roll through those narrow city streets. it was two different endings for both bay area baseball teams in winner take all playoff games. >> here's a ground ball right side omar to first. >> the oakland a's could not recreate the magic of game three and four. they lost to the tigers 6-0 last night. tigers now move on to the american league championship series. after the game the sellout crowd at the coliseum showed

let's bring steve in. do you think commuters will be dealing with wet weather? >> i think they are. we have a lot of reports of drizzle. there is still cloud cover coming off the sierra nevada. that will give us a little bit of light rain. some of the higher elevations dealing with that as well. there has been measurable amounts. low moves east very, very slowly. it's been spinning out in the pacific for 2.5-3 weeks. finally got the kicker it needed. mostly cloudy, cool, drizzle, light rain. 50s on the temps. everyone is really close. 55 seems kind of popular. the low is moving but again it's moving into nevada. the wrap around still kind of clips us. it looks like more of an east bay peninsula, south bay, north bay. that little system right there is still working its way in. it's falling apart. it keeps the low cloud deck going. the low is moving. it's on its way out. that will allow a north westerly breeze. today looks like a day similar

delays. commuters may need to look at taking another route. san jose police investigating its 37th homicide of the year. police say a man was shot at least once at rogers and junction at 1:45 this morning. he was pronounced dead at the scene. two people have been detained. vallejo police have detained three people in a suspected home invasion. officers received an emergency call just before 11:00 last night from a house on cardinal lane. police surrounded the home and arrested the three people. several rewards are beingoverrerred in the case of a missing mother from hollister. she went missing on wednesday after dropping her kids off at school. yesterday her suv was found engulfed in flames but no one was inside. but that does now have police especially concerned about her safety. friends and family spent most of the night searching around the burned vehicle for clues. anyone with information is asked to call police. also today police in west

minister, colorado could identify a body found near the home of jessica ridgeway. the ten-year-old disappeared one week ago. investigators believe she was abducted while walking to school. so far police are not making any connections between jessica's disappearance and the body found on wednesday. the fbi asking people to be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior. in southern california a bitter congressional race between two democratic lawmakers turn ugly at a debate last night. youtube footage. challenge came while the two were arguing over a federal immigration bill. sheriffs deputy intervened and had to calm things down. redistricting process has put the two incumbents against each other. new this morning just a few hours ago the norwegian nobel

committee awarded its peace prize. the winner is the european union. eu is receiving the reward for history of spreading peace, democracy, and human rights across europe. it comes as surprise to some people since the eu is wrestling with the biggest financial crisis in its 62 year history. people in berkeley hills are on high alert after a mountain lion scare there. people were told to stay inside while wile life officers looked for -- wildlife officers looked for that animal but they never found it. public health officials are sending out warnings for those that visited a public park in south lake tahoe. it comes after a chipmunk tested positive for the plague. the warning now has some visitors a bit concerned. >> that has me a little bit worried now. i don't want any flees on my dog or on me.

full size. jp morgan chase said its earnings rose. reporting properties of $5.7 billion. and credits rising revenues while the credit losses decline. ceo of jp morgan says the housing market has turned the corner and that benefited the bank. wells fargo reports its earning in about an hour. oakland landmark clock tower is under going etrennuation. the san francisco business times reports the red neon sign could refer to a restaurant rather than a newspaper. tom henderson bought the building and converting it into a new location for its call center. that has prompted the owner to lease space for the new tribune tavern. it's all expected to open next spring. battling over sunshine in san francisco. the big decision on a big shadow and how it will impact multiple dollar project in the heart of downtown. a frightening trip coming home from school. the impact that sent a number of students to the hospital.

injuries in san bernardino county after their school bus collided with a u-haul truck. about 40 elementary students were on that bus when the truck backed into its path. the impact knocked the bus on its side. two people are in the hospital with serious injuries. city of san rafael will look into whether more precautions are needed where a pedestrian was run over and killed. a van crashed into the 84-year- old victim. the marin independent journal reports a passed survey listed the intersections as one of the most dangerous. proposal for 1,000-foot high transbay tower in san francisco as cleared a major hurdle. two city commissions believe the proposed tower will not pose a problem in the area. the chronicle reports it
